PerioscopeEliminates the need for many periodontal surgical procedures
Early detection of a periodontal disease is very important to your health. We have the only Perioscope in Michigan which can detect problems manual x-rays and manual exploration may miss. Make an appointment today to take advantage of this unique technology.Traditionally, the only the way to examine dental patients has been through manual exploration and x-rays. Both of these methods offered some information, but were limited and inconclusive in many cases. The Perioscope changes all that by providing real-time visualization of the gum tissue and tooth root surface below the gumline. This innovative new technology allows us to locate previously undetected root deposits with pinpoint accuracy through an illuminated view that is magnified 48x. The benefits of perioscopy are not just for people suffering from the advanced stages of periodontal disease. When used properly, the perioscope is a very powerful diagnostic tool for the early detection and treatment of many conditions. A routine examination and dental cleaning performed under powerful magnification beneath the gums can reveal problems frequently overlooked by traditional diagnostic methods, such as decay, failing restorations and fractures.
The Perioscope consists of a 0.5mm diameter fiber-optic strand. The strand is inserted into a sheath which conducts a flow of water around the strand, to the strand’s end. The end of the sheath has a sapphire lens that focuses on the tooth’s root surface and sends the image back through the fiber-optic strand to a video-sensing chip. The image is then displayed on a monitor.
Perioscope HighlightsUntill the introduction of the Perioscope, your hygienist could not tell if your teeth were clean under the gums. That's right, it was strictly a guess. Now we can verify the effectiveness of your periodontal treatment becuase we can actually see the roots of your teeth under the gum tissue. Because of the ability to see the diseased root surface, we are able to treat periodontal disease without cutting the gum tissue. This means no stitches, faster healing time, less discomfort, and a because the Perioscope is less traumatic to your teeth and gums you'll get a better overall result.
